Oklahoma Bound!
Well folks...it's back to a familiar neck of the woods for me. Long time childhood friend, Kaleb, flew out here to Phoenix to help and we've rented ourselves a very nice U-Haul and will soon head east. The past year has been a great adventure. I have loved being single and living in Phoenix, but I suppose it is time for a change. Who knows what this next year will bring. In the meantime, let us all keep our fingers crossed that weather does not leave us stranded somewhere between here and Oklahoma City. I have been stuck in New Mexico before and don't relish and repeat. See everyone soon!

Don't let the door hit you on your way out....
It was announced earlier today that communist Cuba's Fidel Castro, the world's longest reigning dictator, is stepping down effective immediately and that the powers of the office will fall to his brother, Raoul. Fidel, can't say that we'll be missin' ya!I'm always one to read up on the conspiracies and can't help but enjoy the most popular one now spinning around the globe: ¡Fidel está muerto! or for those in Rio Linda - Fidel is dead!!! Heck, he's probably been dead for weeks or even months. Fidel's health has been in question for some time now and he stopped making public appearances more than a year ago. Raoul has all but had the title for quite some time. But who'd a thought?! I know Fidel is a hundred and something, but I figured that the world would never be rid of him. What a temporary breath of fresh air. By temporary I mean that no one better be so disallusioned to think that Raoul is any less ruthless a dictator than his older brother. Heck, he has been the commander/general of the army for decades. We cannot honestly except Raoul to oversee and institute democratic reform. It simply isn't going to happen. But, and there is always a but...it cannot be over-emphasized enough that one less Castro is one less Castro. A mild celebration is certaingly called for and no doubt underway in parts of Miami!
Disgruntled, disheartened, disgusted!
Yep, I'm pretty much over it by now. You haven't heard from me in weeks because I couldn't muster the strength to formulate even one run-on sentence. Politics is politics as usual and my guy is out so I have done my best to tune out. I will undoubtedly support McCain and his running mate but until it is settled I am enjoying the much needed reprieve. I've even shut off talk radio, turned away from CNN, Fox News, and find myself only checking Drudge and Real Clear Politics only a hand full of times.
Will Barack win out? Will Billary come from behind, pull some back room punches, and steal the nomination? Who knows and frankly why should anyone care. Just three weeks ago at a debate in Los Angeles the two of them were holding hands, smiling, and having to admit that they are nearly identical when it comes to policy and platform. Now that Hillary is feeling the pressure she is attempting to draw battle lines but they don't seem to be sticking. Instead, the sheeple of America are blindly signing their allegiance to Obama. Mind you this is the same Obama that we've been looking at for years now. Yet now the sheeple's hearts are overflowing for the 'Change' candidate. (I've already said that he and Clinton have the same views so how can Obama be for change?) More importanly....what constitutes change? WHAT IS 'CHANGE'?! According to Obama, 'Change' is coming out on stages across the country and blatently pandering/ blatently belittling the coolaid drinking masses with lectures repeating variations on 'change', 'hope', and matras of 'Yes we can!' Pretty much every speech I have forced myself to endure add up to nothing but the repetition of these three intellectually shallow principles. I simply DO NOT GET IT! He and his cult-like following even make Hillary seem more human.
I've even heard of people fainting at the site of Obama. Tell me, where has rationality gone? Since when was a lousy politician from Illinois something a kin to Elvis, the Beatles, or dare I say a messianic figure of some sort? Give me a break. It frightens me at the debased level of political discourse in this country. The modern media and thus the citizenry at large have decided the only real test is popularity and electability. Candidates need only to wave and smile and the masses will fall down and worship. Sounds awfully manchurian to me. No one rises in modern political warfare on his or her own merits. I tell you, there is most certainly a puppetmaster pulling Obama's strings, making him dance and leading the majority of America into a trance with no possible favorable outcomes or conclusions.
And what has the GOP done to combat the situation on the left? Chosen McCain. Hmmm.

Exit Polls Speak Volumes - Racest North and Bigoted South
Deep fried foods, simple living, cradle to grave church attendance, charm and hospitality - the iconic, Rockwellian descriptions of 'the South'. Lest we forget - its not all good news. After all, the south is not remembered for slavery and oppresion for no reason. It was home to the Confederacy and a past steeped in racisim and prejudice. These prejudices are so ingrained in our society that in modern political discourse it was a region written off for the first viable black presidential candidate, Barack Obama. dfghfggghhjkhj
Pundits, commentators, and strategists alike did not give Obama a prayers chance at performing well in the deep south. Yet the first blow to conventional wisdom came when Obama beat Clinton by nearly a twenty point margin - ten points more than any poll predicted. He not only carried the black vote, but the white, hispanic, young and old, male and female, etc. Simply, he crushed his opponent in every voting block. In hindsight then it is not surprising that Obama did so well on Super Tuesday in the south. His performance in South Carolina was just the beginning and was then mirrored in Georgie and Alabama. New polls indicate that this trend will continue in Louisiana and Mississippi. Perhaps this is finally the beginning of a new era in the south and old practices might finally be laid to rest.
Interesting to note is the region Obama performed the most poorly: the North. Those tree hugging, feel your pain liberals in the northeast came out in droves to vote on Tuesday and vote they did - for Hillary Clinton. These are the same Ted Kennedy liberals that demand new energy sources yet refuse to allow their cities to put up wind turbines; speak out against Bush's fiscal irresponsibility yet have been responsible for more earmarks and pork spending than any previous Congress. It's the classic liberal hypocricy that we have all grown to detest but expect: Do as I say, not as I do. They will speak out against racisim, even march if necessary, but vote? I guess that's just going too far.
The madness doesn't end there! The media had a field day Tuesday night reporting the unanticipated succcess in the south of Gomer Pyle, I mean Governor Huckabee. It had appeared that Huckabee's star was fading after mediocre performances in four of the five early primary/caucus states. Heck, most pundits had actually begun to call the GOP race a two man fight between Romney and McCain. We should have all known better. After all, Gomer is a
former Baptist preacher. Combine that resume with the southern white, evangelical electorate and the formula more than not will equal success. Disgusted with McCain and against Romney the only option was to pull the lever for the Huckabeast. Going against the grain of the party establishment and against the suggestions and persuasive arguments of powerful conservative talk radio, the evangelicals did what they do best - vote on a single issue, religion. Regardless of the FACT that Huckabee's lackluster record is far from conservative, he happens to have the right religion. It is as simple as that. Bigotry at an astounding level.Needless to say, the media hype over Huckabee's performance on Super Tuesday was over the top and almost laughable. To date he has won a total of five states, three or more behind Romney and if my count is correct seven behind McCain. So he won some southern states. The conclusion I draw is that Huckabee is a regional candidate - incapable of winning any state outside of the south and completely incapable of winning in November. It is undeniable that Hucks' real goal is the VP slock on a McCain ticket. The two of them have worked behind the scenes together (i.e. in the West Virginia caucus) to squeeze out the other candidates leaving them as the GOP's only choice. Nice try. This Republican isn't buying it and will likely sit out in November, performing what Rush Limbaugh has coined a 'suicide vote.'

Where's Al Gore when you need him?
Many experts are saying that the 2007-2008 North American winter will be the coldest in more than three decades. Just this morning the over fed, furry rodent from the north once again saw his shadow, predicting another six weeks of more cold winter.I have to enjoy the irony - this winter of all winters being the coldest on record in my lifetime! Remind me, who won the Nobel Peace Prize last fall for his work on global warming? Oh yeah, that mechanical former vice president of ours - Al Gore (or if you pronounce it like Rush Limbaugh - algore). You know the one - the globe trotting cheerleader who has spent every waking moment of the last several years peddling his ludicrous, fear mongering, sensational, and extremist propoganda film on the end of the world.
I'm not arguing that one cold winter is evidence enough to debunk the global warming 'science.' There are plenty of stone cold (pardon the pun) facts that do that job for me. I'm just noting and enjoying the timing. It couldn't be more perfect. Hope Al's enjoying the snow.
